FYI, and I don't know if you guys want to kept appraised of, but I (Ryssy, Ryssan, Kynra) haven't been able to be around for what, a week? Maybe more. Yeah, I think more. Mother in law fell down the stairs, broke a couple of ribs. She didn't want to be treated until she went to take a bath (she has a walk in bathtub) only to somehow get stuck in the tub before turning the water on? I'm not sure about the details. So hubs got her set up on the couch relaxing, and the next day, she called and she wanted to go to the ER. No problem. They admit her because he blood sugar is in the territory that most people are in a diabetic coma (600's). Get her blood sugar down, and the hospitalist decides that she is going to be shipped to the nursing home because of her history of falls. So she's now been in a nursing home for a week, I think. Hubs is the one taking over her financial stuff and since he's local, as opposed to his brother, he's the one taking care of his mom, too. And everything else. So I'm here trying to hold everything together.

Oh my, I'm sorry to hear about that! I had a (painfully very) close call with my mother not long ago, so I feel I may somewhat be able to understand the emotional turmoil that comes with a loved one in that kind of a situation. You have my thoughts.

I did notice you were gone the last week, so I'm glad to hear from you, but also sad about the reasons why.

I do wish you and your family all the best! Take all the time you need to deal with real life. It always takes priority. We understand. :)

Thanks. The big worry is that she's going to have to end up in a nursing home on a more full time basis. But luckily, she comes home Wednesday. The issue is that someone will need to be with her full time (hubs' rules, not nursing home rules), not to mention she's coming to our house to eat every night because she would be satisfied with a bagel for dinner otherwise - she'd down to under 100 pounds, and that was before a 5 day stomach flu where she wasn't keeping anything down. So at least she'll be getting one meal a day that she doesn't have to cook, and that she'll be getting significant calories in.

Well, mother in law is out of the nursing home, has been home for a couple of weeks (with one of the four of us always at the house with her), and because she uses the emergency room as a doctor's office, ended up admitted again when she went in to check if she broke her thumb in yet another fall to, once again, try to see what's causing her falling. If she had just gone to her doctor to have him check the thumb out, there would have been no hospital admit. The doctor has assured us that her falling isn't grounds for a nursing home admit because the only difference is instead of falling at home, the person would be falling in the nursing home. We go through social services every time she gets discharged to make sure she's never home alone in case she DOES fall, so she's not laying on the floor. I'm getting a bit frustrated.
